'Aphrodisiac' foods for putting love on the menu!
Want some help making your romantic encounters sizzle this Valentine’s day? Then check out our guide to the top ‘aphrodisiac’ foods.
“There are a number of foods which have developed a reputation as so called aphrodisiacs, or which are thought to help with libido,” explains Slimavite nutritionist Melanie Bibby.
“While there is little scientific proof to back up most of these claims, there is a lot to be said for self-confidence and the effect feeling sexy can have on libido. Losing even a small amount of weight can help boost confidence and bring a feeling of achievement, and it is what you are feeling on the inside that will really count.”
The shape of love!
Oysters, one of the most famous aphrodisiac foods, along with bananas and asparagus are sometimes said to possess such qualities, but this is mostly likely due to their shape.
Chocolate delight
One of the most famous and delicious aphrodisiacs. Its qualities are put down to the chemical reactions it can cause in the body. The effects have been compared to the changes in the brain experienced when in love.
Getting spicy
Many spicy foods, such ginger, garlic and nutmeg, are considered to be aphrodisiacs because of how they can have an effect on the body. This can include sweating, stimulating circulation and an increased heart rate, similar to changes in the body which can take place during a romantic encounter!
Breathe deeply
The smell of vanilla is also considered by some to help create an aphrodisiac effect.
So why not cook up a romantic meal taking inspiration from these foods and spices, and see if you can put love firmly on the menu?
